My Corvette

I've always wanted a Corvette. When I was a little boy I remember watching Route 66 and watching these two guys travel along a well known highway through the midwest headed to California. That seemed like such a good idea. Especially on the way to California. When I was 17 I seen a '67 Corvette for sale at this "rip you off" car lot. It was red and it was obviously wrecked and the person who fixed it didn't know what they were doing. It had a 327 in it. It was about $3,500 and this was when a brand new car only cost $2,800! Daddy just didn't see how much I needed it. I told him and my mom that someday I'd have me a Corvette and I'd show them! I recall telling my brother, Steve, how much I wanted it. When I got old enough to buy a new car, I went for a 1974 Mustang II. Steve told me that it was a piece of junk and that I needed to get something else, like that Corvette. I couldn't afford the $4,100 for the Mustang let alone the 10 grand for a 'vette. I told him that some day I'd get one but for now I wanted that Mustang. It wasn't meant to be and I didn't get it. I began saving my money and a couple of years later I bought a red Camaro for $5,177. At that time the Corvettes were running about $12,000. The Camaro got stolen from my appartment complex two days before Christmas 2 years later and I got me a red Toyota Celica. I had that car for 15 years. In the meantime I bought a red pickup truck. In 2001, the truck was about to expire and I traded it in for a white Lexus RX 300. White? What's up with that bland color? The idea I had was to bite the bullet and buy something that may keep some residual value. Five years later I traded the white Lexus in on a RED CORVETTE! The Lexus retained it value and I finally realized my dream about 30+ years later. Funny how when you have to do everything yourself and you don't have any help from anyone else, it takes a little longer to realize a childhood dream. I'll not be crusing Route 66 but the places I do cruse, I'm being noticed and it's fun for a change. A RED CORVETTE!
